West Virginia Rails 2010 will have 2 operating steam locomotives and a half-dozen diesel locomotives on top of the many displays and exhibits. Visitors will have the chance to run a steam locomotive, visit the cab and chat with the crews. Breathtaking excursions through the lush Appalachian Mountains are available each day.

New Attractions to WV Rails 2010 include "Big Mo" the largest Mobile Model Railroad in the World. Also displaying at the event is 1/4 scale Norfolk and Western steam locomotive no. 611.

The country's most traveled steam locomotive will be at West Virginia Rails 2010. Flagg Coal Company #75 will be running around the event site under steam for all visitors to view and photograph. You will even be able to run the #75. Tickets are limited to run the #75 so be sure to get yours early. You will be able to blow the whistle, pull the throttle, ring the bell and use the brakes. New Hope Valley Steam Locomotive #17 will visit the event on its first ever outing from home rails. The #17 will be pulling the hourly trains each day. Take some time to stop by and talk with the crew and capture some great photos. - Buy tickets to ride behind #17 - #17 Website

Vintage Streamlined diesel locomotives will be on display as well as pulling excursions throughout the event. Come check out the inside of one of these rare pieces of American railroading history.

Trains will leave daily and hourly from Petersburg, WV. We expect many of the trains to be sold out prior to the event. – Be sure to book your tickets ahead of time. - buy tickets

Take your kids (or just yourself) on our miniature railroad. This is included in the cost of admission and is great fun for the whole family.

Take a unique ride in a motor car. These track cars were once used for moving railroad workers around the railroad. They will be on display and giving visitors rides.

Everyone loves model trains. Several model train layouts will be on display during the event with hundreds of trains running around. See realistic scenes as new and old model trains run on these tracks.

Be sure to visitor our vendors and take home a railroad souvenir to remember your experience. Vendors will be selling all types of railroad items and one-of-a-kind mementos.

Each day rail excursions will take you through the mountains and valleys of the Appalachias. You will travel next to the Potomac River and watch breathtaking Bald Eagles fishing for food while riding through the valley. - buy tickets

On Friday and Saturday evenings a small group of people will gather to photograph the trains after dark. Event Schedule
Over three days excursions will be operated over the 51 mile long South Branch Valley Railroad through the World Famous Trough. Some Trains will be pulled by vintage steam locomotives others by historic diesel locomotives.
Run A Real
Steam Locomotive
Here is your chance to live a dream and run a REAL steam locomotive. You will be given instruction by a professional steam locomotive engineer and YOU will pull the throttle, blow the whistle and stop the train.
Night Photo Sessions
Be one of a very limited number of people to have access to the trains after dark. A night photo session will be held with the assistance of special lighting and instructors. Don’t miss this rare commemorative opportunity.
